How to understand the physical directory of my web host?

Hello,
I advised of there was some software that finds out what is the URL to the physical directory of your website at your webserver...for example: /var/www/mysite ...but could you command me the name of such software?

If you're accessing a directory, such as:
www.mydomain.com/mystuff/
about to put a slash at the end of the URL. If you try an address such as:
www.mydomain.com/mystuff
you may be challenged twice for the password.
