How come companies can afford to provide free web hosting but not free .com domains?

Saying that web hosting generally speaking costs 5 dollars a month, and domains usually cost 5-10 dollars A YEAR, how revive people don't provide free domains?
Hey David, thanks for the very long answer but I already use 1 and 1 play the host. This is just a question I was wondering.
Web hosting is easier to specify for free since the space that is provisioned on the web server may already be paid for. But for a domain name, they cost the host per property just as they cost you and I, so they would lose a lot of profit trying to provide free .com names.

On the back burner serve until you're old enough to buy one. (I assume that you can't buy one, if you're just cheap, then I apologize.) You obviously don't have common sense and shouldn't even have a website, let alone a concern. That's harsh, I know, but search yahoo answers for the words "Free discipline" and you can see how many other people ask the same question, and I doubt that any of them got a free domain/hosting.

what are some free web hosting services i can use with a discipline name from inuit.com? i just paid $10 for the domain name but i'd like to use a free hosting service that allows me to add my own layout or at best as a customizable template program.
