What does it mean when a hosting company offers CGI Based PHP?

I am looking to herd a website and use various PHP scripts. The hosting site that I am looking at offers "CGI based PHP"? What does that allude to for me? Does that mean I cannot embed PHP into my web pages? Do I have to put all PHP scripts into the cgi-bin?

Well CGI Based PHP means he must be using PHP as FASTCGI or CGI

you don't insufficiency to upload your php scripts / files to cgi-bin folder.

Like if its a Microsoft Windows based Hosting then it would be IIS (Internet dirt Services) with FastCGI PHP

CGI Based php actually means php is running as an extention.

It doesn't matters if php is runnin as CGI but it would be faster if its standalone.

However, I would like to put you following hosting companies.

Is there any free web hosting service that support PHP or CGI?

I cannot find even one. Most Free-born web hosting I found was lacked of PHP or CGI. Does anyone know one?

Did you get the manager account with CGI? What level of hosting did you purchase?

I've used their service with the CGI option for a couple of bucks more with no question.
