What's the difference between WordPress.com's VIP Hosting and WordPress.org?

I recollect both can add Adsense, and manage ads. Which one is more worth it on the long run? Do you need to apply for VIP hosting?
To use VIP Hosting, you already must have a very flourishing blog - somewhere in the ballpark of 500,000 pageviews per month. You must be able to afford a $600 set-up fee and $300 per month for the serving. And yes, you must apply. Only a few applicants will be accepted. Basically, VIP Hosting is for up-and-coming "blog celebrities" - big name bloggers - who have the small change and influence for Wordpress to want them as clients.
On the other hand...to use Wordpress.org, you need to download the sprung installation, and have your own server space (e.g. from a web host like Netfirms.com). That's it. No fees, no applications, and as covet you have access to some server space to store your site, it's open to everyone. Big and small blogs alike.
So which one is more importance it? Wordpress.org. Because it'll cost you about $100 a year, as opposed to $4200 a year for VIP Hosting. And the $100 isn't even for Wordpress, it's for the server stretch.

There are many companies that afford free web hosting including Yahoo Geocities. Problem with all of the is that they put ads on your site. Someone has to pay if it is not you. There are also a lot of low cost providers which will toil fine if you are not expecting an overwhelming amount of traffic. I have a website that costs me $3 per month for way more bandwidth than I call.

First distrust: in the wiki they note to "su - aegir" to run the design in lieu of of "sudo". But how can you do it when the aegir operator isn't created yet (this is done in the penmanship).
So i did sudo sh set up.sh. Everything went first-rate, I tried to induct the sphere "aegir.nearby". After the fitting, I'm not superior to reach aegir.shire. (firefox says whereabouts not found) What do I be in want of to do?

The wiki docs say 'Seduce safe you run "su - aegir" and not sudo, as it has caused problems during setup.' and I've no guess what this means, so I'll get rid of it.
