Web hosting FAQ

What is the difference between web hosting, reseller hosting and dedicated hosting?

web hosting means fundamental hosting your website.

reseller hosting means reselling your web space to other end users at your own cost plus you can rate money from it and you can sell it under your own company name.

dedicated hosting means buying a huge space on unmarried server and using it for a single site.

Which hosting plan ( dedicated/reseller ) would you choose if you a web studio?

Why you would you settle upon reseller over dedicated and vice versa ?

In the flesh? Neither. I don't want the headache of having to deal with hosting problems. Instead, I just became an affiliate for my favorite web hosting Pty, and so in addition to my consulting fee, I get a nice hefty check for my sign-up bonus.

Addition, I don't think it's socially responsible for a web designer to host the site as well. I know too many clients with antipathy stories... they weren't happy with the design, or found out the fee was outrageous, or both, and ended up with their website being hijacked by someone who a split second turned rude and obnoxious and threatening.

So, people looking to hire designers who might be reading this, take consider... go to the extra trouble to register your domain name yourself. Then sign up for web hosting yourself (again, separate companies). Go with the promotion of your designer if they have one, but don't give away the root password to the account. Assign the designer their own FTP countersign for uploading files.

If I'm going to have a site with large file downloads-should I get shared, VPS, reseller, or dedicated hosting?

Basically, I'll be having a situate that will have around 5-6 large file video downloads....would shared hosting toil for this?

Shared hosting is superb. Get the cheapest thing you can find because downloading files takes no resources off the web server. Dedicated is where no other websites, except yours, is on the server. If you have elaborate php or .asp web pages that use a lot of resources to process all the information, then the dedicated would be idea in this situation.

You'll want to scrutiny and see how much bandwidth (how many mb's you're allowed to send over the internet) and how much is costs if you go over.
