Web hosting FAQ

Is there such a thing called space hosting?

I'm looking into hosting my own website in the UK, however I don't necessitate dedicated or shared hosting, I'm looking into finding a provider where I can use to host my own physical severs, basically a provider who gives span and bandwidth for my servers to use rather than using its own servers. Does this exist?

Of no doubt. Call your Internet Service provider to give you a FIXED IP address.

Let's work out the math. Let's say tha you buy a Settled IP address and it costs $100 per month. Don't expect it to be cheap.

Then consider the in reality nice Server that you buy. Let's say that you go with a medium budget and spend $1000 for the computer. Of assuredly, if you go LINUX, that software will be free, but Windows 2003 Server will cost you around $1,000.

With your own server, that means BACKUPS and other preservation. If you go Windows, that means that you need added security. Obviously, I propound LINUX as your operating system...Hey, but I don't have a clue what you want to do.

Now look at a RENTED shared hosting: Remarkably low priced service, but shared server and shared SSL certificate. This works, but it you are not alone. Patently, you would MOVE to other services if you exeedd the monthly bandwidth limit regularly. Take a close look at http://www.ipowerweb.com at their LINUX server services. This is under $50 per YEAR, extra Domain Name(s).

If you are planning multiple websites and want individual website SSL certificate, then go with Multitude Gator. See http://www.hostgator.com
Again, this is under $60 per YEAR, plus $75 for SSL.

The soften maintenance costs of rented hosting is well worth the hassle of being able to say "I do it myself".

Chaste luck.

UK based web hosting needed?

I am looking for web hosting based within the UK (Due to search machine issues it has to be based within the UK). The hosting only needs to be shared and not a dedicated server or virtual.

I will need around 20-50GB bandwidth per month and the worn out FTP access/stats etc. Costing £10-£15 per month but upgradable.

I am already in the I.T. industry and calling closely with large ISP's and web hosting companies, however these are too large and do not provide any shared hosting.

If you have experience of a close provider (Good or Bad) then your help and advice would be apreciated.

Do i go for Dedicated Server or Shared hosting?

I am starting up an online payment processing throng like PayPal. I wanna know which option to go with. Dedicated or Shared hosting? I have seen a Shared hosting body that offeres Unlimited Everything! http://www.heartinternet.co.uk/business- h.shtml should i go with them or should i go with FastHost? http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/dedicatedserv ers/

A reliable dedicated server is more expensive.
Shared hosting can be slow if others are taking the bandwidth.
It's up to you but if a site is common to VERY busy then shared hosting is out of the question.
