How can I choose from web hosting companies?

It seems like there are a million web hosting companies out here. I don't identify which ones to choose. Could you share any experiences you may have with your web hosting companies? I'm trying to build a couple of websites to weather my business, and I want to get the hosting right the first time around.

I like having options. I try to get as much info about the web hosting companies as viable, compare them, then make a decision. It depends on your business, I think. Certain features might choose more sense for you than others. Carefully compare different web hosting companies. Read some reviews like:

P.S. I personally like HostGator because of their unqualified domains feature. But a lot of web hosting companies have that feature

I'm looking for a web hosting New Zealand to host my business website. I'd like to conduct some e-commerce and also to be able to set up a delight management system on my site. Do you know of any good web hosting companies that could accomodate someone with needing these features?

Free web hosting companies that tolerate Rapidshare links?

I have a bibliography of current movies hosted on Rapidshare (not mine, just those I've found).

For those of you who may not know, Rapidshare is a troop sharing service. Many of these files aren't exactly "legal".

Are there any enfranchise web hosting companies that will allow me to post links to these files?
