I'm getting a empire and need web hosting. Who has good hosting that I can get for free? Do they have FTP storage?

Can you setup multiple ftp accounts to access Yahoo web hosting?

I have a alter ego that wants me to help him with his website, I would prefer for him to not give me his user account and password, and to set me up with my own (for collateral purposes). Can this be done with Yahoo web hosting?

With any cpanel hotelier such as ourselves you can setup multiple FTP accounts if you want. I mention that as I'm not a fan of Yahoo web hosting as they are not very webmaster focused and don't let you have access to a lot of tools. There are a lot of proof hosts out there even if you don't go with us, bluehost.com, lunarpages.com, hostgator.com, any of those are solid hosts designed for people structure sites.

I've got some margin(1gb) on a web hotsing server. I'm trying to collaborate with people from different geographical locations. I was wondering if I could use this lay out to share and manage our code by installing svn or cvs in this space. This server has only ftp access..

Trustworthy you can. Google web hosting and see if you can use a svn or cvs.
