what exactly should I look to verify that my windows hosting server is healthy and secure?

I have a windows hosting server and thats tournament pretty smoothly so far. what exactly should I check to monitor the health of my server, is there a checklist .. any tips .. where should I start from...
well, this response needs ot be long and involved ,but i m gonig to give you a few short tips. Search for "sygate SOS" and ru nthe harbour scans to make sure your firewall is donig its job. View the web logs from your web/ftp server. Also look at the incident viewer to see who has been logging on and off and what your programs and services have been doing (errors wise and whatnot). Keep a conclude eye on your firewall logs and look for questionable activity. Hopefully you have active IDs systems installed and can guard that stuff. Go to the microsoft main site and do searches on server health and follow those links, they can bid u what things to do and look for. I can't give links to this as microsoft rotates their links regularly and would be outdated in 2 hours. Like I mentioned, there is tons of cram u can do to minitor your server depending on how involved nad what you want to monitor. Just general heath of it is heartless to give an answer to as each different service the server runs can and needs to be minitored. There are programs out ther ethat unite alot of the logs and service monitoring into one GUI. If your server is getting hammered with users then u be ti automate the process. If you are just using it for low amount of people or services, then jsut look at logs yourself. If you have it real on the web and its been working ok for over a week then u can be fairly sure that it is secure. But you do need ot watch who may have been gifted to take control of it as 50% of hackers out there get control and use it to their advantage and leave it do what u have it programmed to do there fore u have no reason anythnig has changed. I run email, ftp, http, streaming meadia, instant messanging and a few other things, in the fashion of servers, so i know what you are talking about. Security and monitoring/auditing are my best friends.

Web site Hosting, Windows Server vs Linux Which is Better?

We currently have a hosting associates that looks after our website, I have found out that they are running Windows based Server. My question is should a website provider/hosting in the end be running Windows server or do respectable Hosting companies run Linux. I just need poop like the cons of having windows environment.
My website is hosted by Microsoft on Windows servers, but having administered many servers (Novell NetWare, OS/2, Unix, Windows NT4 thru Server 2003, Linux), Windows would be my last selection for most server functions.
Management likes Windows servers because they think that the graphical consumer interface will lower the cost of administrators, but total cost of ownership is greater for Windows servers (greater mat requirements, less MTTF).
I had heavily used NetWare servers that would run without rebooting for 11 months, yet Windows NT4 nd 2000 servers that were less lightly charged needed to be rebooted every week or two, or their processes would die or slow due to memory leaks. NetWare and Unix servers, though complicated to set up and tune, would run and run without attention.
Unix servers can execute PHP, which is a powerful server side scripting interaction. Windows web servers can't run PHP.

Depends. Were you still using the at liberty pop3 that was offered ages ago in which you lose if you fail to log-in within a certain amount of days. Or, do you have a paid account with Windows Correspondence? Or, are you asking how to set up a pop3 account on Windows' Windows Mail program because it is not getting your pop3 accounts emails????
