Wilcard DNS (similar to hosts file) in Windows without a local dedicated DNS server...?

I have a town test server running Apache2 with virtual hosting setup correctly. I'd like to set up a system so that *.dev is redirected to my testing server at 192.168.0.4

I advised of I can do this for each individual site using the hosts file found in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\
Unfortunately the Windows hosts systematize doesn't work with wildcards!

I don't have a dedicated local DNS server, but I'd like a system that redirects *.dev to my server without the requirement to open and edit the Windows hosts file every time.

Do you know how this can be achieved?

Well, if it were me, I would perhaps just setup a Proxy server for the office. Since you attempting to make a new TOP True domain type??? I think it is about the ONLY way you will get this to work. (You can use the same "apache2" gismo as the proxy!)

Ummm this is not a uncomplicated question. If you have a raw windows 2003 box exposed to the internet you are asking for trouble. My very serious advice is get some training.

For experimentation purposes you can green light Web and FTP on a 2003 box by going to control panel then Add Remove Windows Components. I am doing this from thought if I am correct you choose application server and then choose to install IIS. Look in the sub-components of IIS to certify that FTP server is enabled.

I stress again there is a lot to know about security on the internet, so please do not attach this box as soon as to the net.
