What is a Dedicated IP Address ?

A hosting company offers that on its gold tidy sum. I am thinking to go for the silver packet which is cheaper. Am I going to loose much if I don't have a dedicated IP ?
I am planning to have some joomla sites in that pack's servers.

No. A dedicated IP means your internet family (at your modem, for example) has the same IP all the time.

I am looking at choosing a hosting formula with a web hosting company. They are offering a 'Dedicated IP' at an additional cost. Is this any good? I don't understand why it's recovered than using the standard 'Shared IP'.

From what i tolerate your not looking for a dedicated server, your looking for website hosting and they're offering you a Dedicated IP.

you could still be on a shared server, only you will have a seperate IP than the other accounts hosted on their server, this would forward you if you're looking to use SSL certificates or if you would like users to be able to acces your website through an ip location.

personally i think the dedicated IP seperates my site from the rest on the server, for example if a melicious plat is hosted on the same ip as yours then users may have the IP blocked and won't be able to get to your site, the same applys for email system, if for sample MSN, Yahoo have the shared IP on a blacklist due to other acounts on the IP sending spam you will be under the blacklist because you are under the shared IP.

in my suffer a Dedicated IP isnt to much extra cost £10 a year-ish is what i pay for a dedicated IP, and in my eyes it's worth it, i would definitly recomend it,
