Which is best Anti virus and mail server security for dedicated server?
Oct 22, 2009 by Trendy | Posted in Security
I essential to setup a anti virus and anti spam for mail server to my dedicated server....I was totally mixed up on this. Please advise me which will be best option for both anti virus and mail server security???
The trounce anti-virus is Kaspersky or Norton but they are not free. Kaspersky does step a free online scan but it doesn't remove what it finds. Second best bib free are Avast and AVG and others. The Microsoft firewall that comes free with XP and Vista is relatively good but unfortunately provides no visibility. If you need visibility, try the free Zone Warning. Zone Alarm is very good but it is difficult for me to say it is the best. The best firewalls are not unrestrained. You have phishing filters in Firefox 3 and IE 7 and IE 8 (Smart Screen Filter) and AVG. It's strictly a suspicions about of how often the phishing filter database gets updated with accurate information. It's cold to say which is best.

When setting up a dedicated mail server, how should I set up my DNS settings on the primary and new server?
May 24, 2007 by Riven | Posted in Computer Networking
Referring to the mx record, that is already being managed by a 3rd party name service provider. It will not have to change since we are not getting a new outside IP address. A representative from that company, though, said that some DNS settings will have to change on my end to make unswerving that mail is routed properly to the new server instead of the old (primary) server where we are currently set up using different mail server software. (We are transitioning from MailEnable to MS Disagreement Server 2007).
Can anyone offer any advice concerning these DNS settings? Or do you have any other useful tips to help me have a smoother development? (I didn't install our first mail server, and this is my first time installing Exchange Server).
Thanks,
Riven
Riven,
Non-microsoft DNS servers that are authoratative on your network must subsidize 2 DNS standards; service resource records and the DNS dynamic update protocol.
Outlined in RFC 2052, a employment resource record (SRV RR) is a type of DNS record that enables DNS to recognize multiple servers in a individual domain and to locate commonly used TCP/IP services that are associated with specific servers. SRV RRs sanction a DNS server to generate a list of network servers that provide TCP/IP services and the protocols supported by those servers, and to shape a preferred server for a specific service, such as Microsoft Exchange.
The SRV record is formatted to embrace information about the service that is provided by a server, the domain that is serviced by a server, and the protocol used by the server.
The DNS Emphatic Update Protocol is outlined in RFC 2136 and enables information in a DNS server to be automatically updated, i.e., enabling a W2K Pro workstation to update its DHCP-leased IP speak
The last piece of advice I can give you is to trust your software. MS Exchange is pleasantly intuitive and compassionate as long as your ducks are in a row. By that I mean your primary DNS server is (or should be) the authoratative server for that zone. This means that all changes to the zone, the the cosmos of address (A) resource records, new SRV resource records, and so forth must be made on that DNS server.
You have the option to conceive one or more backup DNS servers, called secondary DNS servers, for a primary DNS server. A secondary contains a imitate of the primary's zone database, but is not used for administration.
Make sure that you unbroken two steps in the windows 2k server environment. First, configure W2K DNS zones in a domain particularly the cheeky and reverse lookup zones, to accept dynamic updates by opening the DNS work in administrative tools, displaying the zone and its child objects in the tree, displaying the daughter objects under the domain, right clicking the domain under the zone, and clicking properties. Number two, if you're using DHCP Riven, configure it to dynamically updateDNS or to have clients pull off the dynamic update. To configure DHCP, open the DHCP tool in the Administrative Tools, precisely-click the DHCP server in the tree, click properties, and click the DNS tab. Please don't be offended if I've repeated a lot of what you already be acquainted with, I just meant to cover all the bases. Good luck.

How can I config my LAMP server (connected to internet) to connect my dedicated mail server ? Thanks.?

I have a LAMP server that connected to internet. And I have a mail server in the internet too. So I paucity to send e-mail from my LAMP server via my mail server (so there are no need for me to install a mail server in my LAMP server). How can I do that? thanks very much.
Go winning and add some cheap NICs to each to do the deed; if they're not co-located, you can use ssh or shttp on the same interfaces as before for (preconfirmed! You'll justified have to send stubs in lieu of actual transfers of the Sears Catalog as a mail fastening...) low volume, but otherwise you get to add another interface even if the volume gets remerged according to your gateway router's rules.
Even so, you to all intents want a local mail server cursorily installed, if only for TripWire (or such an IDS) to watch and to grab flowing failsafe mail methods (e.g. packages which look to match up exim or Sendmail type for their own default settings.)
