What certifications should I get that relate to working in a dedicated web server farm?

I got a job working in a Linux/Windows web server cultivate and I want to know what certifications would help me improve my career?

Anytime webservers are intricate, start with at least Security+, I assume you have your A+? This is often overlooked, but is an absolute must for a good groundwork.

MCSA is beneficial for windows and all that just as a good background but not really specific and not useful for linux.

If this will be Citrix based at all, and a lot of companies watch over towards citrix solutions, the Citrix Certified Enterprise Administrator (CCEA) is helpful.

On the hardware side of things, figure out where you want to focus. Most companies today seem to fancy cisco solutions, so a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification is helpful.

Do dedicated web servers come with DNS installed?

I would like to have my own dedicated server take mind a look after of the DNS. Is this possible or do I have to use the DNS service provided by my domain registrar? My domain registrar is out of the ordinary from my hosting company and since they are an overseas company I feel that their DNS forwarding would be very slow. So do all dedicated servers admit DNS service or does it vary with the company?

Whatever employment provider sells you a dedicated server -- GoDaddy, Rackspace, etc. -- should subsume DNS service as part of the package.

You could also use your registrar's DNS servers, if you feel technically comfortable enough to do that yourself.

As a oversee, DNS service is local to the user, not the host. In other words, if you have myweb.com as your domain, when I typewrite in myweb.com in my browser, it's not your DNS server that resolves it; I use my ISP's domain servers to resolve the speech. Your DNS servers just house the authority for your domain -- that is, when you specify your DNS servers, you're forceful the world that when it comes to myweb.com, your DNS servers have the correct CNAME, A, MX, etc. records for that discipline, and thus your entries should be considered authoritative for your domain.

How can I make my own dedicated web server?

Hi, I'm currently tiresome to convert an altered (suped up) IBM Aptiva which was originally made for windows 98 into a web server. I would like to use this to compere several sites. I'm trying to choose between either windows server 2003 or linux. Anybody have any view?

That depends a lot on your undergo with or willingness to learn Linux. If you have either I would recommend it hands down. For one it is free, two you can more easily set up effective sites (you said you wanted to run several) with just a copy paste in a config systematize etc.

If the sites grow more advanced you might need php or mysql integration. If you think you will desideratum this I would set it up from the start, will be much easier.

Main advantage to a Linux box is less maintenance and will run forever leaving out hardware issues. Windows needs regular re-booting etc even with the server taste OS.

Also if your box was originally designed for Win 98 you may have a hard time running 2003 on such old components where Linux will have few issues.

Ignore all this if you don't know Linux nor want to go through the learning curve on it which some don't.
