Any (virtual) dedicated server plan for hosting data and site?

I essential to find an inexpensive (virtual) dedicated server plan, where I can install software and develop online applications.
Which group provide the best service and price?

Damper out www.webhostingtalk.com -- very good forum (active and excellent knowledge secure)

Is getting a dedicated-virtual server the best way to avoid getting shared hosting banning because of CPU use?

What I scurvy is...at Mediatemple.net with their (gs) Grid-Service plan, they only allow 1,000 GPUs and if you go over (in lieu of of getting banned) you have to pay more
and I think "banning" was the wrong to use...I meant "suspending", like how some sites put you for a day or more if you happen to get on the front page of Digg.com

banning?
who is you're provider? Get rid of them...

the first-class hosting I've ever had with fantastic support and amazing reliability and speed is
mediatemple.net and theplanet.com

excessive, but worth the money...you get what you pay for.

What's the benefit of having a dedicated/virtual hosting plan when using asp.net?

Can you use precisely a regular hosting plan to make changes to a Microsoft SQL server database, or do you need dedicated/virtual?

You can unvarying hosting plan.... nearly all hosting plans come with some sort of SQL database these days. The only quirk I'd be careful about is to make sure it has a Microsoft SQL database (which is only simply called MS SQL). Sometimes shared hosting plans also have limits on the amount of databases you can have.

But if you stand in want complete control of the SQL database server (ie/ want to make changes to the settings, etc)... you'll have to get a dedicated/virtual.

For a shared server, you're sharing the database and resources with other ppl, so while you can transform the parts that pertain to your site, you are NOT given complete control. Virtual splits the server up into de distinct portions, so you would have complete control and same thing with dedicated (except that you get the whole server of course for dedicated).

If you're looking for a host I'd favour http://www.liquidweb.com/?RID=vkoduru I've been with them for a year and they've been nothing but amazing. Their prices are a little higher than some other providers (shame then others)... it's mid-range in terms of prices, but the quality you get is high-end so it's definitely merit it. One thing to be careful of when comparing web hosts is that it's not just the specs of the server (hard disk interruption, bandwith) etc that count. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS RELIABILITY AND THE SPEED OF THE CONNECTION... liquidweb is damned reliable (I haven't had one down time yet) and they have a great speedy connection... a lot of the cheaper hosts have bad reliability records and often go down for hours, or sometimes even a whole day.

here's the connector again: http://www.liquidweb.com/?RID=vkoduru
