Where can I get a low-outlay, but still reliable Windows Virtual Dedicated Web Server? Should have a nice control panel for managing the websites. The outline should allow hosting of unlimited domains and loads of bandwidth. Please suggest me some websites. Pls. note - reliability (uptime) is my prime uneasiness.

I entertain my websites with webhosting4life.com. The shared hosting plan allows unlimited domains as want as you don't reach the disk space. I believe the prices are very cheap compared to others that I have reach-me-down before. Their control panel doesn't look so good though, but its sufficient for running my websites. I have five websites meet on the same shared hosting plan. If you really want a a dedicated web server, they have those plans too.

Windows 2003 Server (Virtual) Dedicated?

Alright, so basically i have a virtual dedicated server from a Database. It has windows 2003. Plainly it has a firewall built onto there database etc, but they said i Could install "software" for a firewall aswell.. which I extremity to stop some exploits on some stuff I Host, Everytime, It dosent work, like the firewall turns on for a sec than turns off... it's like it locks me out I Tried BlackIce, But i cute much need a complete tutortial on how to go about installing somthing like this on a dedicated server, The Database said they couldent helpers since there not the software developers.

NEVER use windows based servers on visible networks.

Linux/Unix packet handling and DNS systems are far better...

I have never had a Linux server compromised (VPN peignoir helps.)

Wilcard DNS (similar to hosts file) in Windows without a local dedicated DNS server...?

I have a adjoining test server running Apache2 with virtual hosting setup correctly. I'd like to set up a system so that *.dev is redirected to my testing server at 192.168.0.4

I be sure I can do this for each individual site using the hosts file found in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\
Unfortunately the Windows hosts walk doesn't work with wildcards!

I don't have a dedicated local DNS server, but I'd like a system that redirects *.dev to my server without the shortage to open and edit the Windows hosts file every time.

Do you know how this can be achieved?

Well, if it were me, I would all things considered just setup a Proxy server for the office. Since you attempting to make a new TOP Unvarying domain type??? I think it is about the ONLY way you will get this to work. (You can use the same "apache2" contrivance as the proxy!)
